Although water supply levels in San José have returned to normal, sustainable water use will be an important factor for ensuring the long term availability of this essential resource. Even when water supplies are plentiful, it’s still important to save water and make water efficiency a part of our daily lives. The City has water use rules that remain in effect at all times in order to promote efficient water use citywide.

Water Service in San José 
There are three water retailers in San José, each with their own service areas: 
  • San José Municipal Water System, owned and operated by the City of San José
  • San Jose Water Company, privately owned and regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission
  • Great Oaks Water Company, privately owned and regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission

Preserving our Drinking Water Supply
In San José, our water supply is limited, yet our community is growing, and the demand for water is expected to increase. Water efficiency is a sustainable strategy that allows for population and economic growth while helping our long-term water supply reliability. Even when water supplies are plentiful, it’s still important to save water and make water efficiency a part of our daily lives. Although there is no call for saving a certain amount of water at this time, the City has water use rules that remain in effect at all times, regardless of water supply conditions.

Free shower heads and aerators for our customers.Free Water Fixtures
San José Municipal Water System has free water fixtures for its customers, including shower heads and kitchen and bathroom faucet aerators. Customers can pick them up in person between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at the office at 3025 Tuers Rd. The fixtures are also available at Santa Clara Valley Water District headquarters located at 5750 Almaden Expressway. Customers are limited to two shower heads, one kitchen faucet aerator, and two bathroom faucet aerators.
