The City of San José Office of Cultural Affairs in collaboration with Burning Man Project present Sonic Runway by Rob Jensen and Warren Trezevant as the first artwork selected for the Playa to Paseo initiative. Sonic Runway is a light-art installation that visualizes the speed of sound. The artwork is 432 feet long and stretch across a city block between 4th and 5th streets in front of San José City Hall, 200 E. Santa Clara Street, San Jose, CA 95113. Sonic Runway converts audio signals into a pattern of lights that shoot down a corridor of arches at the speed of sound, (1235kph /767mph). Live audio input is analyzed and converted into intricate patterns that shoot down the corridor with sound and lights in sync. The artwork can be be viewed nightly from 5:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. through March 2018.
